Now that would have been fabulous! I was listening to something off Play and I heard Darrell's voice and I think I nearly cried.

*snifflesniff* I miss Darrell still. :) I miss him singing "Excursion Around the Bay"! And the funkiness of his bass solos on "Lukey"!

We all, I think, have a little bit of Darrell funkiness in us.

Well, I'm probably not going to take the quiz (I don't "squee" so well either) but I had to pop in and tell you about my recent exposure to GBS.

My sweetie has been loading her mp3 player up and going to a mutual friend's home to swap with him. He has an amazing catholic selection of tunes from old swing to really oddball novelty tunes (w00t!).

In any event, the first night she did this she's playing the new stuff and Mary Mac came on. About a verse into it I said, "Waitasec! This wouldn't be a group called Great Big Sea?". Yep, it was.

There's been a couple other GBS tunes show up as well. Your b'ys are very talented... as pickers (and bowers) as well as singers. And whoever is playing the bhodran (sp?) has a great sound too. The type of music is still not my cup o' meat for the majority of my listening time but they were very nice in the blend with the other stuff.

Plus, I finally have an idea of what all you folk are going on about! :-)

*giggle* No, you don't seem like the squeeing type. ;)

But I'm delighted you got to hear some GBS songs. "Mari-Mac" is one of my especial favorites, in no small part because it's one of the ones I know how to play. And indeed, the bodhran and fiddle in many a GBS ditty are fine, fine things! That's Séan McCann on the bodhran--and I'm especially fond of him on the drum because part of me has a soft spot for percussion. :)

And I swear I didn't cheat!

Um...I saw one. Either in the thread in the GBS community or in silme711's post about this quiz. Don't remember which off the top of my head.

Ah, I hadn't seen an Alan result on the community post when I originally answered it! I see there are two comments there now with the Alan pic.
