Some more things to listen to
May. 12th, 2006 03:10 pmSo in an attempt to broaden my musical horizons, I have now snarfed the following things into my library on Rhapsody:
An album called Concerti per Mandolini, a bunch of works by Vivaldi, including some concertos for mandolin. 'Cause, well, partial to mandolin and stuff. And another Vivaldi album, Famous Flute Concerti, with lots of flute and piccolo stuff; an album called Sonata For Flute and Harp by Jean-Michel Damase; and two Mozarts: Concertos for Flute and Harp, and Masterpieces for Flute.
I'm kind of hoping I can find a recording of that piece I played as an audition piece way back when I tried to get into the Youth Performing Arts School, for which I still have an arrangement but on which the composer's name was chopped off since it's a bad photocopy. Even if I don't find it, though, this should be fun.
Meanwhile, after having chatted a bunch with Eirian on the GBS board, I've also snarfed a bunch of Dead Can Dance albums and four by the Mediaeval Baebes.
And hrmm. Perhaps I'll require a classical music icon.

i still have my yo-yo ma renditions on my rotation, but hers have joined them, and they bring me great joy. i think they have two other bach cello concerto recordings;; you'll have to listen around (it's free on magnatune) and let me know what you like. (i may even still have the download code to own the carrai version -- when you buy it you get two free downloads to share with friends -- so ask if you do, or send your own $ and spread the joy. i dig magnatune's business model too :)
