PSA for contact lens wearers

For any of you out there who might be using this stuff besides me:

As per (I believe it was) firni's excellent recommendation, I've been using a product called Clear Care by Ciba for some time to clean my contact lenses. The stuff's been working like a charm for me. Except apparently, lately, nobody can FIND IT. It vanished off the shelves at the local Rite Aid weeks and weeks ago, and the one box of a competing product I was able to purchase (AMO Ultracare) hasn't shown up there in a while either.

This afternoon I started calling around to try to find some of either of these, and was informed by a guy at one of the downtown Bartell Drugs that everybody's been looking for the Clear Care stuff. He seemed to think that they weren't making it anymore--so I called my vision clinic, and got better data. They said that the manufacturer has apparently reported manufacturing difficulties lately, which has caused quite the shortage of the product. Their site, though, has a press release issued today that says that they're resuming shipping this stuff. So hopefully it should start showing up again soon.

I sure hope so, because my lenses have been feeling the difference lately!

I'd been using Ciba's "Pure Eyes" lately, but now I'm having trouble finding THAT.

Yes, my eye doctor called and they said by mid-April, they hope to have it on the shelves again. I was lucky, I stopped by to find out, and they had a couple sample bottles for me, since I'm allergic to pretty much everything else out there on the market.

I'm thinking of stockpiling a couple bottles against future problems, as I can limp by on cleaning them only 3-4 times a week, which would help weather any more dry spells.

Your eye doctor actually called you? Hrmph, mine didn't call me. I'm jealous. :)

A stockpile might not be a bad idea! And here's hoping they get new supplies of the stuff on the shelves soon.

Yeah, the Rite Aid at Lake Forest Park Town Centre has been out of any products even remotely related to this stuff for a while, it seems.

I wasn't clear. I stopped in and asked them about it; they called the manufacturer, and they called me back when they had an answer. Hadn't had enough caffine, apparently. :)
