Midweek tidbits
Jan. 11th, 2006 01:19 pmAt long last,
mamishka's Firefly episode guide is now listed on Amazon! If you're a Browncoat, or if you know someone who might be and who needs but a helpful guidebook into the Firefly universe, this book is for you. Also, you should buy it because Meems is Fabulous!
In other news, I got swamped with several contacts from Volt yesterday, or so my beloved
solarbird informed me. For lo, my 100 day break from Microsoft is about up, and they want to know if I want to return to my former team at Borg. I am of course on another contract now, so I get to tell them "not now". We'll have to see what happens in June when this current contract is up--and whether I will be able to tell them, "I'll be happy to return if you can get me a comparable rate and more interesting stuff to do like I had on this new contract." Or whether Certain Other Opportunities will have materialized by then. It's nice to know they want me back, anyway. Even if I don't get that Other Opportunity (she said, looking meaningfully in the direction of Mountain View), it'll be reassuring to have guaranteed employment into next year.
Today though I got handed potentially fun new stuff to do--jumping in on a project being coded by a guy whose contract is about to expire, and which will maybe even let me get my feet wet in some Java and XML. This would be Extremely Good, and actually expand my skills and stuff. So yay on that!
Last night I took a bit of a detour off my usual bus route home in order to stop by the pharmacy and get the new round of thyroid meds for my cat. This required me to take a bus I'd never been on before, and it took me three tries to find the right bus stop since the Metro trip planner only told me "4th and Pike". And not which actual corner at that intersection that meant. Also, the bus was nearly 15 minutes late, though that wasn't a surprise with downtown traffic and our current weather. But the good part was that it dropped me off right by my destination, and it wasn't too much of a walk to get to the second bus I needed to pick up to get home.
This morning as I came in the wind was even stronger than it was yesterday. My hat blew off repeatedly, and the wind gusting off the Sound blew my umbrella inside out twice. It was strong enough wind that a couple of times I actually had trouble walking, which was odd and different. But perhaps it's blowing away some of the rain and clouds that have been hanging over Seattle for weeks now, because there have been intermittent spots of sun and blue sky across the course of today. It'd be nice to see things drying out a bit!
Tonight there is new Lost. Yay!
Tuesday evening miles: 2.4
Wednesday morning miles: 1.6
Miles out of Hobbiton: 610.7
Miles out of Rivendell: 152.7
Miles to Lothlórien: 311.3
