[livejournal.com profile] solarbird informed me as I got up this morning that there's a chance it may actually snow tonight in the Seattle area. Which would be absolutely mind-boggling, since I can't remember if it's ever snowed in November while Dara and I have lived in this state.

However, weather.com seems to think we'll be getting some snow tonight. Look here for the details--and while I'm half-inclined to believe that we won't get any snow at all, better safe than sorry, folks. Take care with your commutes today and tomorrow!

Snow Advisory from the National Weather Service:

/O.NEW.KSEW.SN.Y.0007.051129T0700Z-051129T1500Z/ EVERETT AND VICINITY-SEATTLE METROPOLITAN AREA-TACOMA AREA- 1017 AM PST MON NOV 28 2005

...SNOW ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 11 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 AM PST TUESDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SEATTLE HAS ISSUED A SNOW ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 AM PST TUESDAY.

SNOWFALL TOTALS OF UP TO 2 INCHES ARE EXPECTED FROM LATE THIS EVENING THROUGH EARLY TUESDAY MORNING. THE LIGHTEST AMOUNTS WILL OCCUR TO THE SOUTH AND EAST NEAR PUYALLUP...WHILE THE HEAVIER AMOUNTS AROUND 2 INCHES ARE EXPECTED CLOSER TO PUGET SOUND AND NORTH OF SEATTLE. SNOW WILL CHANGE TO RAIN DURING THE MORNING RUSH HOUR.

A SNOW ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW WILL CAUSE MAINLY TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SNOW COVERED ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES...AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.

Special Weather Statement from the National Weather Service:

SAN JUAN COUNTY-WESTERN WHATCOM COUNTY-NORTHERN CASCADE FOOTHILLS- CENTRAL CASCADE FOOTHILLS-NORTHWEST INTERIOR-EVERETT AND VICINITY- SEATTLE METROPOLITAN AREA-TACOMA AREA-ADMIRALTY INLET AREA- HOOD CANAL/KITSAP PENINSULA-SOUTHWEST INTERIOR-OLYMPICS- EASTERN STRAIT OF JUAN DE FUCA-WESTERN STRAIT OF JUAN DE FUCA- NORTH COAST-CENTRAL COAST-WEST SLOPES NORTHERN CASCADES AND PASSES- WEST SLOPES CENTRAL CASCADES AND PASSES- 453 AM PST MON NOV 28 2005

...ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL POSSIBLE FOR THE LOWLANDS OF WESTERN WASHINGTON TONIGHT AND TUEDAY MORNING...

ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL IS POSSIBLE FOR THE LOWLANDS OF WESTERN WASHINGTON THIS EVENING AND CONTINUING INTO TUESDAY MORNING. THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO MAKE THE TUESDAY MORNING COMMUTE DIFFICULT. THERE IS STILL A BIT OF UNCERTAINTY REGARDING SEVERAL ASPECTS OF THIS DEVELOPING STORM SYSTEM. THE LOCATION...DURATION AND AMOUNT OF SNOWFALL WILL DEPEND HEAVILY ON THE FUTURE TRACK AND STRENGTH OF SEVERAL FEATURES OF THE APPROACHING WEATHER SYSTEM.

THE MOST LIKELY SCENARIO AT THIS TIME IS THAT THE HOOD CANAL...KITSAP AND MASON COUNTY AREA IS THE LIKELIEST CANDIDATE FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL. THE SNOW IN THIS AREA IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN THIS EVENING AND CONTINUE OFF AND ON INTO THE NIGHT. AN INCH OR SO IS POSSIBLE NEAR SEA-LEVEL WHERE IT WILL BE MIXED WITH RAIN AT TIMES...WHILE 4 INCHES OR MORE IS POSSIBLE ABOVE 500 FEET IN ELEVATION. THE WESTERN CASCADES FOOTHILLS AND THE SEATTLE...BELLEVUE...EVERETT METRO AREA MAY RECEIVE 1 OR 2 INCHES OF SNOW...BUT MAINLY AFTER MIDNIGHT AS EASTERLY LOW LEVEL WINDS WILL KEEP THE PRECIPITATION LIGHT AND IN THE FORM OF RAIN UNTIL THEN. THE REMAINDER OF WESTERN WASHINGTON EXCEPT THE CENTRAL COAST HAS THE POSSIBILITY OF RECEIVING 1 TO 3 INCHES OF SNOW. RAIN SHOULD FALL OVER THE CENTRAL COAST WITH A MIX OF SNOW AND RAIN OVER THE NORTH COAST.

IT IS LIKELY THAT WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES MAY BE ISSUED FOR PORTIONS OF WESTERN WASHINGTON LATER TODAY.

HURRAY! SNOW!

We still have snow here from Thanksgiving Eve, but it's melting today, despite the grey/fog.

The weirdest thing to get used to is... it's not a big deal here. No real advisories, nothing on the news about how long it will stay around or anything... I guess I've got to get used to that! :)

*hugs*

But SNOW!

We've already got some on the ground up here.

You might get some snow, but I'm pretty pessimistic about getting any snow here in Ballard. We're too close to sea level.

Already snowed a touch up northish, just enough to need a squeegee on the windshield yesterday morning...

Last night. I thought the kid was teasing me, saying "snow!" and making "carpet angels" in the living room. Put him to bed, looked outside, HEY WHAT IS THAT WHITE CRAP ON MY LAWN?

It all depends on the wind. If it stays northeast it could get enough dry air underneath things that it doesn't do much. If it goes ahead and backs around to straight north (which means aloft it'll be from the northwet - spelling deliberate) and the temp drops enough... oh, yeah. It'll snow.

Our driveway is pretty wretched in horrible weather (steep, curvy) but in six years, we've only gotten stuck down here maybe once.

Of course, we have snow tires. Some of the people who visit, don't. I don't salt the driveway in case the JeHos come to visit. "I didn't invite you, it's not my fault you fell on your ass!"

We got snow yesterday, in Issaquah, and I heard they got snow in Shorline and Everett as well.

I'm more inclined to believe Yes for snow than No.

*grin*

I'd be willing to bet we'll get 1-2" here in Greenwood (top of a hill, etc.), but it'll be gone before I wake up tomorrow.

Hey, there've been dogsleds in downtown Seattle before. It can happen!

But yeah, 400' vs. 200' is enough to matter. Plus we're further enough north that it matters, too.

Ours went away again :(

I love snow. I don't know if I could live in a place that didn't get snow.

It certainly felt like snow weather this morning - COLD and overcast, with that chillness that makes the inside of your nose sting.

I wouldn't mind some snow as long as it doesn't impede my trip to DC on Wednesday. :)

check out weatherbug (http://www.weatherbug.com) if you like... it sends updates directly to your puter... I've found it useful quite a few times over this past summer.

i'll be out there later this week, and i'm amused to see that it'll be colder there than here.

Not a surprise, considering how cold it was during the morning commute this morning. Every little puddle along the trail was frozen solid, except a few with enough traffic and solar coverage to be half-melted.

It actually snows in November fairly frequently here, or at least has in the past. I remember many snowfalls--usually very light and not enough to stick--on or around my birthday in mid-month. At least half a dozen times that I can remember, and probably more. I guess we're overdue.

And I expect that a non-salted driveway is a good way to keep undesirables away from one's door, yes. ;)

yes, but it also makes it dangerous for wanted folks (like the mail carrier). We have a city by-law indicating we MUST shovel a path on our driveway and our sidewalks for the posties (or at least my parents always said that it was a bylaw requirement).

When it gets below freezing out, I pour water on the walkway. Don't tell anyone, though.

Ugh. I walk to work and back twice a day (home for lunch), and while it's a short walk, just a couple blocks, it's up and down steep hills. I am so very NOT hoping for lots of snow! I like snow... but I don't mind going somewhere to visit it. My sweetie and I are already talking trip-to-the-mountains to play in the snow this winter... but I don't need the snow to come to ME. ;)

I'm one of those strange people who likes shovelling snow. The ice I loathe though.
