We have an update out of Google, folks. It seems that since they don't have the people up here in Kirkland to interview me (which we'd already suspected here at MurkNorth), and since I would specifically be non-local to the main Google office, they need to do a second phone screen with me to make absolutely sure they want to bring me down for an interview on-site (which would still count for a Kirkland position). I can deal with that, and it's good to know what's going on now. So I get to talk to another Google type on Monday morning. Wish me luck, folks!

No word yet out of Volt about the current contract nibble on the line, though. I'd been given to understand that I should have heard something today, but so far nothing.

In the meantime, although I have been trying to write all day, mostly this has amounted to the following exchange between me and my brain:

Me: "Heeeeeeeeeeeeere words! Here word word words!"
My brain: *sound of crickets chirping*

I've barely written a couple hundred words today. This vexes me.

On the other hand, I have at least amused myself by downloading all of the available tracks off Carbon Leaf's official media downloads page. A scattering of songs on all of their albums may be downloaded for free; I approve! So this gives me a partial sampling of all the rest of their albums that I don't have yet, and hopefully this'll give me an idea of which one I want to buy next.

Carbon Leaf's downloads are so great – I got their version of Istanbul off their website, which I love to death, along with the live versions of A Life Less Ordinary and This Is My Song.

I really like Carbon Leaf. They get a lot of play on the public radio station here, and I saw them open for The Clumsy Lovers last year. Excellent band!

Oh cool, I'm glad to hear you like them too! :) I became aware of them via my Great Big Sea fandom--they've toured with GBS a couple of times now, and there's quite a bit of crossover of GBS and Carbon Leaf fandom. I got to see their last show on their joint 2004 tour, and it was a great deal of fun.

I've got two CL albums right now: Indian Summer and Echo Echo. A gent on greatbigsea was also kind enough to point me at downloads for the CL part of the GBS/CL show I attended, and since CL is a taping-friendly band I went and downloaded that too, so I've got some live CL on my iPod as well. :)

I really liked watching the Carbon Leaf guys live, especially their mandolin player. That man has fingers like WATER. Just watching his hands flow up and down his instrument blew me away. Also, their lead singer has such a neat and distinctive voice. :) They're now perhaps the second group aside from GBS I'd consider going to see perform live on a regular basis.

For live shows, I love Los Straightjackets. They do really exciting surfer rock. The Clumsy Lovers, again, are fabu. I also love Gaelic Storm live.

If GBS ever come near here, I'll go see them live based on your recommendations.

Great Big Sea has played Kentucky before, but they're not swinging down there on the 2006 tour; I looked. Looks like the closest they'll get this time around is Ohio.

But you should definitely go see them! Or if you can by any chance get hold of a rental copy, rent the Great Big DVD and you'll get a whole GBS concert. ^_^

I've listened to only a little bit of Gaelic Storm, and that was on what I believe is their first album. I liked the instrumentals on that, though I wasn't sure about the vocals. I'm told their latter albums improved, though!
