For New Orleans

This song has been stuck in my head all morning. It's from the soundtrack to Elvis Presley's best movie, King Creole. In the recording, it's played up-tempo, saucy, with a lot of brass. Right now, though... I'm more thinking a single soulful-voiced singer at a piano in a smoke-filled bar, slow tempo, soft volume, and a lone spotlight. Right now it feels like it ought to be a bluesy lament.

I really hope the last verse of the song picks up its tempo again. I want to hear those horns coming back.

Um. Dude. I know you're trying for a bit of levity here, but I think that's about the last song that ought to be mentioned on a post about music and New Orleans right now. Just a thought.

If what I'm told is true, one of-maybe the main-reason New orleans is flooding even after the storm is the massive pumps that kept New Orleans dry aren't working,and the nearby lake is higher than the city-as is the ocean. Scott

It was true, yes--though that's only part of the problem. The levies that protect the city were broken in many places, and between that and the pumps being overwhelmed, yeah, the city was pretty much overwhelmed.

I've been following the articles on CNN, and at least as of today they've finally started pumping the water out of the city. But it's going to take a while. There's so much contaminated water to deal with. :|
