And as if I didn't already have enough reasons to be irritated today, I came home from work to find a bill waiting for me from Swedish Medical Center--where, as the home audience may recall, I just had my biopsy that showed OH LOOK, SHE NEEDS TO HAVE MORE THYROID SURGERY!

This bill is for all the diagnostic work. And it comes to nearly TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS.

Joy. Now I get to call them tomorrow and ask them why the hell, since I presented them with my insurance card when I showed up, this bill has come anywhere NEAR ME.

Also, I've been feeling vaguely oogy all day, and I'm not sure if it's a result of my fall or not. I'm pretty sure I didn't hit my head, but I've nevertheless had that sort of shaky, vaguely queasy feeling that seems to indicate some sort of system shock reaction. I think tonight will be a good night to curl up under a blanket.

Ugh. The biopsy they did on me back in May ended up running near two grand, although I'm quite sure Premera didn't pay them anywhere near that.

And that was just for the surgery part, I'm wondering how much the pathologist will charge...

Nothing like them screwing up your billing when you're already not in the mood. Just another darn hastle to deal with. Hope you get it worked out, and even though I'm only now reading this, I hope you did get to curl up under a blanket with maybe a hot cup of something and a good book.

Which is probably why Towbin decided to do it the way he did; the CT scan showed the windpipe was off, and it had to come out anyway; no sense blowing bucks on an FNB when you're just gonna take it out anyway.... just do a basic cassette stat while the guy (me!) is out on the table...

Dunno how much the CT was, but the ultrasound was only $150 real bucks, of which I ended up paying most because of my deduct... but still better than a couple GRAND.... yeesh.

And that is why I love the combination of the NHS and work-related private health insurance. Although the bills for my back are mounting up at the moment, because I can't claim against the other driver until I have a final cost.

Oh, bothersome bother. I'm sorry to hear that you had such an overall annoying day. And also sorry that you need more thyroid surgery. Let me know if I can do anything to brighten things up.

Gah! Put that bill in an envelope and send it to your insurance company RIGHT NOW. *shudder* I hate when that happens.

I had the same thing happen in the '80's when I had my appendix taken out-I had presented the insurance card at the hospital, filled out all the forms, faced the east, made sure the moon was in the right phase, and the planets were aligned-all was right with the Universe and the insurance..and I got a bill for 3800 dollars a few weeks later. Took maybe five minutes to straighten it out,but apparently they billed the patient just in case the insurance didn't pay off..Scott

NHS=National Health Service, one of the reasons I'm very glad to be British.

I was in a rear-end shunt six weeks ago, and I've mostly been off work ever since (a big part of my job is driving, and the car I have to use is agravating my back problem if I drive it for more than twenty minutes at a time). Hopefully I can claim all my private treatments back off the other drivers, but if all else fails I should be able to claim through the scheme we've got going at work.

I dunno, for us it was 2001 and the first part of 2002 that really blew. This year, so far... ech. I should do a whine-a-thon post about it, but I'm just not in the mood.

Or maybe I've just learned the lesson that whining won't get me anywhere?

naaaah, I just don't have the energy.
