I have found, in this evening's mail, my "we got your manuscript" acknowledgement postcard sent back to me from Luna. This impresses the hell out of me, given that I only sent that thing off five days ago. It says they received the manuscript on the 23rd--and I sent it off on the 21st.

WOW. I was expecting this to take at least a week. Now I get to try to not think about how fast it's going to take them to tell me whether or not they actually want the book. Gulp.

Also, GOSH it's hot. *pant*

*snicker* It was, thankfully, less onerous in our house once solarbird opened all the windows. And it turns out that that monster retaining wall behind our house is a great way to trap coolness!

We should probably consider putting those big fans up in the attic on either side, to prevent the need for putting on the A/C when it's only around 80 outside, because when I turn on the A/C, it gets nice upstairs and freezing downstairs. Stupid split-level house.

Thanks! I'm still periodically having bouts of twitching and going AAAAAH I'VE SENT A WHOLE NOVEL TO A PUBLISHER FOR REVIEW AAAAAAH!

(And, actually, mailing the manuscript WAS a bit of an accomplishment all by itself, what with having to go out once for envelopes, bring them back, and then figure out how to get everything over to the post office so that I could let them weigh the manuscript both with and without the extra return envelope... and THEN they actually forgot to charge me for the two other items I wanted to mail with it, so I had to turn around and go back to make sure I paid for those, too.

They were very grateful for that. :) )

We've got temperature discrepancies going on, too, between the first floor and the second. Dara figured out how to get a fan going without turning on the heater, so she can pull cooler air upstairs.

Also, the house is actually quite refreshingly cool with all the windows open. Nice cross-breezes.

Our windows are arranged upstairs in such a way that crossbreezes are difficult to receive. Hence my demand (when the furnace died year before last) for a heat pump with A/C.

Aha! Sounds reasonable to me. :) Somehow, Dara and I have managed to survive all these years without central air... on the truly miserable hot days, we've got the portable A/C unit. We'll have to see if we wind up needing it any time this summer; MurkNorth is quite cooler temperature-wise than MurkSouth.
