+1: My ultrasound appointment yesterday afternoon went well, as expected. I actually wound up getting there over half an hour early because I'd overestimated the amount of time I'd need to get there--and hadn't realized that the bus would be dropping me off right across the street from the place. But it turned out that I didn't have to wait, because the appointment ahead of me cancelled--so they were able to see me early.
-2: On the way home I stopped off at Third Place Books just to see if they had any early copies ofmizkit's book. They did not, which did not surprise me, but when I asked the guy at the counter if they'd be getting it in, they said they wouldn't be carrying it. Foo. He did proceed to offer to order it, but I don't know--I've never been much for ordering books if I know I can go to another bookstore and find it. I just have to go a little farther. Guess it'll be next week that I get my copy of Urban Shaman, anyway!
+3: I have not yet written a word on Chapter 12 of Lament, as I have realized that I've hit one of those parts of the story where I have to make crucial decisions about upcoming character actions--things which can set the course not only for the rest of this particular book but for the entire three-book arc as well. I had a most excellent brainstorm session last night with Kit on the Murk, which reinforced an idea which had already partially occurred to me and gave me another very interesting direction in which I might take my primary bad guy--things which would certainly give him plenty to do all throughout the story. (THANKS KIT!)
+4: My lead told me yesterday that I kicked ass on the Win9x stuff. Go me!
+5: I am now reading Summers at Castle Auburn, and I have plowed through nearly 200 pages of it on my way into work this morning. It's a very swift read, and I'm finding it an interesting switch from previous Shinn books I've read. Like its setting, a courtly environment where a young bastard-born noblewoman is growing up to learn the true natures of everyone around her, it's a rich, refined confection of a story. I'll enjoy finishing this off on my way home.

Date: 2005-05-25 05:16 pm (UTC)This book, though... quieter in scope than the Samaria books, certainly... and I've had no major surprises in anyone's character portrayals... and yet it's reeling me in. :) Shinn seems to have a gift for that, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the story concludes.
