Two Cool Things of the Day

#1 - I got email from the guy who did the aboriginal dance performance as one of the opening acts to the 30 Odd Foot of Grunts show last year. He thanked me for the kind words I'd said about his act; I posted about him on my web page, but I also mentioned him in the "thank you for a helluva show" email I sent after the show last year, so I'm not sure which one he was actually responding to, but well hey. Whee. :)

#2 - My little brother brings me new news about my brother's band! Quote:

Just thought that I would update everyone on the news about OUTSPOKEN. Donnie, says that Lava Records has made their band the priority of the new label (formally LavaAtlantic). The first single will hit radio nation wide Sept 9, 2002. The album ships Aug 31 to record stores nationwide will Oct 31 being the CD release date. Just thoght you all would like to know.

Third cool thing of the day

Reading Post Captain, the second of Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey & Maturin books, and on page 213 I find the sailors singing the song from which Great Big Sea's "Rant and Roar" is descended!

We'll rant and we'll roar like true British sailors
We'll range and we'll roam over all the salt seas,
Until we strike soundings in the Channel of old England:
From Ushant to Scilly 'tis thirty-five leagues.

We hove our ship to when the wind was south-west, boys,
We hove our ship to for to strike soundings clear,
Then we filled our main-topsail and bore right away, boys,
And right up the Channel our course we did steer.

Clearly I'm going to be having GBS ditties rolling through my head the whole time I'm watching Far Side of the World, when it comes out. ;)
